Thumb and digit-sucking habits can interfere with the proper development of the jaw, palate, lips, and teeth. While breaking these habits can be challenging, it is essential for promoting healthy growth and ensuring optimal oral development.
Oral restrictions can often be the underlying cause of various challenges, including nursing difficulties, feeding issues, speech disorders, sleep disturbances, relapsed orthodontic results, neck and jaw pain, snoring, teeth grinding, and much more. Identifying and addressing these issues through myofunctional therapy can help improve overall health and well-being.
Tongue posture plays a crucial role in the quality of sleep for both adults and children. Individuals with myofunctional disorders may experience disrupted sleep, snoring, or even develop conditions such as Obstructive Sleep Apnea, all of which can impact overall health and well-being.
Mouth breathing can contribute to a range of issues, including cavities, gingivitis, periodontal disease, dry mouth, and snoring. It may result from tongue posture, allergies, or enlarged tonsils and adenoids. By addressing the myofunctional disorders that contribute to mouth breathing, we can promote proper nasal breathing and improve overall oral and respiratory health.
Addressing myofunctional disorders that contribute to teeth grinding can help protect your child's teeth and support proper occlusion as they transition into adulthood. For adults, dental guards are a viable option to manage grinding and prevent further dental damage.
When teeth are crowded or the bite and occlusion are misaligned, orthodontic treatment is typically the preferred solution to straighten teeth, correct the bite, and achieve proper palatal width. Myofunctional therapy can complement this process, helping to support lasting results and prevent future orthodontic relapse.
